The Mighty Angel Tops 500,000 Admissions

    WARSAW: The Mighty Angel by Wojciech Smarzowski hit half a million admissions in just over a week after its premiere.

    The drama The Mighty Angel (Profil Film) has quickly followed in the tracks of Smarzowski's previous picture Traffic Department  (Film It), a Polish box office hit in 2013 with over 1 m tickets sold. The distributor of The Mighty Angel Kino Świat informed FNE that in 10 days since the picture premiered on 17 January 2014 a total of 528,758 tckets were sold in Poland.

    The film noted a strong opening with 253,937 admissions on its first weekend, making it the 4th best opening Polish production overall and the best opening for a Smarzowski's film in his career. The filmmaker is quickly growing to be one of the most popular Polish directors. His second feature The Wedding (2004, TVP, Film it) had 195,608 admissions (20,848 on the opening weekend), House Evil (2009, Film it) sold 223,303 tickets (opening 33,337), Rose (2011, WFDiF) had 430,620 admissions (72,920 opening) and Traffic Department opened at 176,732 tickets with 1,015,418 total admissions.
