WARSAW: Paweł Pawlikowski’s Polish international hit Ida will compete for an Oscar nod not only in the Best Foreign Film category but also in the main competition for Best Directing, Best Script, Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Acctress.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in Warsaw by representatives of the production company Opus Film on 14 October 2014. The film has already made over 3.7 m USD in USA alone (according to Box Office Mojo) and has been distributed in over 30 countries including UK, France, Israel and Italy with international sales managed by Portobello Film Sales

"We are in very good hands. The marketing of Ida in the US is managed by Nancy Willen, who is responsible for last year's success of Paolo Sorentino's La Grande Bellezza," Ewa Puszczyńska from Opus Film told FNE.

Ida, produced by Phoenix Film (DK) and Opus Film (PL) in association with Portobello Pictures (GB) and Canal Plus, is currently also competing for the People's Choice Award at the European Film Awards. Opus Film told FNE that due to the film’s significant success in France (over 500,000 admissions), UK (over 400,000 admissions) and USA (over 500,000 admissions) it will also be submitted to the César Awards, BAFTA's and the Golden Globes.
