GDYNIA: Agnieszka Holland’s awarded drama Spoor / Pokot will vie in the main competition of the 42nd Gdynia Film Festival. The festival will take place from 18 to 23 September 2017.
Spoor is an adaptation of Olga Tokarczuk’s bestselling novel Drive Your Plough over the Bones of the Dead. The script co-written by Holland and Tokarczuk follows a series of murders of hunters from a small community. An elderly villager Janina (played by Agnieszka Mandat) finds herself a prime suspect in the police investigation. The cast includes Wiktor Zborowski, Jakub Gierszał, Borys Szyc, Andrzej Grabowski, Tomasz Kot and Katarzyna Herman.
The film was produced by TOR Film Production in coproduction with Heimatfilm GmbH (Germany), Chimney Group (Sweden) and Nutprodukce (Czech Republic), nutprodukcia (Slovak Republic). It was supported by the Polish Film Institute, the Czech State Cinematography Fund, Eurimages, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the Swedish Film Institute, the MEDIA Programme and the Polish-German Co-Development Fund. The film was shot in Kotlina Kłodzka and was completed on 7 February 2016. Holland shot the film in three stages: the first took place in June and July 2015, and it was followed by a second stage in October and the third in January-February 2016. The film premiered internationally in the competition of the 67th Berlinale IFF, where it was awarded the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize. The film was released in Polish cinemas by Next Film on 24 February 2017 and had 263,619 admissions so far. Spoor was sold by Beta Cinema to several territories, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland and Norway.
