COTTUBS: Montenegrin producer Bojana Radulović presented the Montenegrin/Italian/Belgian/Croatian/Serbian coproduction Fires directed by Nikola Ljuca at the East-West pitching forum connecting cottbus, which was held 9 – 11 November 2022. The project is seeking further coproducers, especially from Slovenia and Albania.

On three hot summer days when wildfires are surrounding the city of Podgorica, a multigenerational family is struggling to contain the wildfires that are threatening their own existence: a terminally ill grandmother, a father with drug and job problems, a mother stalking her daughter’s handsome sports coach, and a teenage girl coping with her own desires and the problems burning around her. The script was written by Jovana Bojović.

Some of the crew and cast for the film have already been announced, including Shooting Star Milan Marić.

The film is produced by the Montenegrin Code Blue, which has placed films at leading film festival across Europe since it was founded in 2014. Coproduction partners include Slingshot Films (Italy), Agent Double – Dame Blanche Studios (Belgium), Terminal 3 (Croatia) and Biberche (Serbia).

The 90-minute drama has a budget of 990,640 EUR with 269,000 EUR of financing already in place. The Film Centre of Montenegro has given development and production support.

The producers are looking for financing, in-kind support, sales and distribution partners. The film is planned for delivery in 2025.

The director’s debut film Humidity was screened in the Berlinale Forum section.
