PRODUCTION: Radu Jude Shoots Scarred Hearts

    BUCHAREST: Radu Jude started shooting Scarred Hearts / Inimi cicatrizate, an adaptation of the writings of Romanian-Jewish author Max Blecher including Scarred Hearts, on 2 November 2015. Ada Solomon is producing through HiFilm Production  in coproduction with Germany’s Komplizen film.

    Shooting will comprise two parts in November and December with a few additional days in spring. The main characters are played by Lucian Rus, Ivana Mladenovic and Ilinca Hărnuț. Marius Panduru (Aferim!) is the DoP.

    Published in 1937, Scarred Hearts chronicles the life of a Romanian student suffering from spinal tuberculosis who falls in love with another patient in a sanatorium near the French coast.

    The budget is 1.1 m EUR, Ada Solomon told FNE. The project is supported so far by the Romanian National Film Center with 340,424 EUR / 1,520,000 RON. Metro, Henkel, Covalact, Adeplast and Cinema City are also supporting. The premiere is set for 2016. Beta Cinema is handling the sales.

    This is the fourth outing of Radu Jude with Solomon after The Happiest Girl In the World / Cea mai fericită fată din lume, Everybody In Our Family / Toată lumea din familia noastră and Aferim!.
