PRODUCTION: Jakub Kroner’s Lóve in Postproduction

By Dominika Uhríková

BRATISLAVA: The 24-year-old Slovak director/writer Jakub Kroner (Bratislavafilm) is in post-production with his sophomore effort, Lóve (Slovak slang for ‘money'), the story of a young gangster who tries to change his life after he falls in love with a college student. The premiere is slated for October 2011.

The shooting took place over 25 days in September 2010 in Bratislava. Though the production was low-budget, the cast is filled with major names such as Dušan Cinkota, Roman Luknár, Ady Hajdu and Ľuboš Kostelný. However, the leading roles are played by non-actors, Michal Nemtuda and Kristína Svarinská.

Kroner's own Inout Studio partnered on the project with Czech production house Evolution Films (www.evolutionfilms.cz). The film received €200,000 from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund (www.avf.sk) and €82,000 (CZK 2,000,000) from the Czech Ministry of Culture (www.mkcr.cz).

"We have also drawn heavily upon our own resources, so the total costs have not been estimated yet," Adriana Kronerová from Inout Studio told FNE, adding that the company will apply for more support to back the post-production.

Kroner, whose 2009 debut, Bratislavafilm, is among Slovakia's top ten all-time domestic box-office grossers, said that he was inspired to make Lóve because in Slovakia there is a lack of movies about and for the young as well as mainstream production titles in general.

"My film is also different in that almost all crew members are aged between 25 and 30, which is rather an exception with Slovak movies," he told FNE.
