The film shot in Bulgaria stars Yana Radeva and Syuleyman Halil Letifov, and it is a coproduction by Germany, France, Bulgaria, and Austria.

The film is a politically charged drama that ultimately that is sure to be one of the most talked-about titles of the festival.
BERLIN: At the 2026 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, director Padraic McKinley presented his historical drama The Weight, an ambitious period film starring Ethan Hawke, Russell Crowe and Julia Jones. The film had previously premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before arriving in Berlin for its European presentation, attracting attention for its combination of survival adventure and character-driven storytelling set during the Great Depression.
BERLIN: The 2026 edition of the Berlin International Film Festival featured a special gala screening of the American crime drama The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, written and directed by Noah Segan. The film, which had its international premiere in Berlin after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival, is a deeply personal project for the filmmaker, blending autobiographical elements with a fictional narrative about childhood trauma and family response.
BERLIN: Bulgarian minority coproduction Nina Roza by Geneviève Dulude-de Celles got the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay in the main competition of the 76th Berlin IFF. Meanwhile, Czech/Slovak If Pigeons Turn to Gold by Pepa Lubojacki received the Berlinale Documentary Award.
