SOFIA: The Bulgarian National Film Center decided to support Brighton 4th, the third feature film by acclaimed Georgian director Levan Koguashvili, which will be a Georgian/Russian/Bulgarian/French coproduction.

Based on the new financial ceilings introduced by the NFC at the beginning of 2016, the Bulgarian coproducer Art Fest will receive around 100,000 EUR.

The Georgian producer Kino Iberica had previously won the funding competition of the Georgian Film Center. The other two coproducers are Russia’s New Media Order and France’s MACT Productions.

The story, written by Boris Frumin and Levan Koguashvili, follows Georgian ex-wrestler’s journey to Brooklyn, New York. His aim is to get his son out of a gambling debt. According to writer/director Levan Koguashvili “in Brooklyn the wrestler meets people who help him and people who ignore him, therefore Brighton 4th will be a mix of drama and comedy.”
Brighton 4th will be shot in Georgia, Bulgaria (including Nu Boyana Film Studios) and New York. The principal photography is scheduled to start in October 2016”, Bulgarian coproducer Stefan Kitanov told FNE.

Koguashvili’s previous film Blind Dates, produced by Milimeter Film/Kino Iberica won the Special Jury Award of the New Horizons section of the Abu-Dhabi Film Festival in 2013.
