WARSAW: Małgorzata Szumowska is shooting the drama Nowhere, a coproduction with CANAL+, through September 2011.

The director and producers have not revealed any details or information about the script. The film is a co-production between the executive producer Mental Disorder 4 and CANAL + (www.canalpluscyfrowy.pl).

Highly praised for her drama 33 Scenes From Life, Szumowska recently finished work on the film Sponsoring and moved right into shooting Nowhere. The cast includes Andrzej Chyra, Mateusz Kościukiewicz and Maja Ostaszewska in the leads and Maria Maj, Łukasz Simlat and Tomasz Schuchardt. The cinematographer Michał Englert worked with Szumowska on her two previous films as well as All That I Love directed by Jacek Borcuch.

The involvement of CANAL + in this project is a part of a new program strategy of the station to produce more local films and programs announced in the beginning of 2011.

"The name of an acclaimed director who is reaching for challenging and often controversial topics, as well as an all star cast, are the guarantee of a cinema on the highest levels of quality. While we cannot reveal the topic of the film, we glimpsed enormous potential in the script of Nowhere. It will certainly be an exceptional, notorious picture that will have its premiere especially for the subscribers of CANAL +, " said Beata Ryczkowska, the Programming Director of CANAL +.

This year the station is involved in several local television productions and big feature projects such as Blindwatching directed by Andrzej Jakimowski. Since its launch, CANAL + has supported over 150 feature, documentary and animated films with over 170 million PLN (EUR 41 million). The list of the station's co-productions include some of the best Polish films of the last decade such as The Collector directed by Feliks Falk, The Pianist directed by Roman Polański and Savior's Square directed by Krzysztof Krauze. In 2010 CANAL+ supported two feature film debuts: Fear Of Flying directed by Bartosz Konopka and Ki directed by Leszek Dawid, as well as a new drama from Jacek Bromski entitled Entanglement and the long awaited 3D animation The Flying Machine. The station is also supporting Polish film production by acquiring the premiere broadcast rights.
