Polanski will Attend an Extradition Hearing before Shooting New Film in Poland

    WARSAW: The official date of Roman Polanski’s extradition hearing in Poland has been set for 25 February 2015. Polanski plans to start shooting his new film An Officer and A Spy in Poland in June 2015.

    The Polish-born filmmaker is planning to shoot his new film, An Officer And A Spy (working title), based on Robert Harris’s book about the life of Alfred Dreyfuss in Warsaw. The director visited Poland in July 2014 to scout for locations according to Polish press reports. "The artistic and technical conditions proposed by Polish companies meet our expectations. The final decision will be made after the legal safety of Roman Polanski in Poland is confirmed", said Robert Benmussa, the producer of the project, during the summer visit.

    "I can only say, that I've decided to go through the extradition procedure and I have confidence in the Polish justice system", Polanski said after the date of the hearing was set, according to Polish press reports. He was charged in the USA for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977, and then left the country.

    The budget of the new project is planned at approximately 35 m EUR/ 40 m USD. The film will be produced in English with an American and British cast but with the participation of Polish filmmakers such as the DoP Paweł Edelman. The production will be shot in Warsaw, and also in France. Polish Film Institute has expressed it's interest in co-financing Polanski's new film.
