WARSAW: The independent Romanian production Last Day directed by Gabriel Achim, which was showcased at the CentEast Warsaw Works In Progress presentation, is now in postrpoduction.

Last Day is a dark comedy about a small community and its colorful inhabitants. The mayor, the chief of the police and the president of a Christian youth group decide to accompany their friend as he journeys to the monastery to become a monk. The cast includes Mimi Branescu, Doru Ana, Adrian Vancica and Adrian Ciglenean.

The film is an independent production from producer Dan Burlac and the Romanian company Green Film, made with a budget of 177,317 EUR.

"The shooting took place in Romania in April to May 2015 and  all the actors and key crew are associate producers, as they all came to work pro bono for the film," Irina Malcea, a producer of the film told FNE.

In an exclusive statement for FNE, Green Film explained their engagement in the film: "The energy that Achim puts into the humorous situations and remarkable characters can create a wholly unexpected film, with absolutely unique, memorable moments. Beyond the tragicomic register, which makes it a provocative film, the subject matter contains profound subtexts that analyze the human being. I am convinced that both festivals and audience will embrace this original independent film."
