By Iulia Blaga

BUCHAREST: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance wrapped shooting on 23 February 2011 in Romania where it was filmed for all but two weeks of shooting in Turkey. The first big American production to be shot in Romania since Cold Mountain in 2002, the 3D film started shooting on 1 November 2010 at Castel Film (www.castelfilm.ro).

'Postproduction moved to the United States, where the visual effects could take eight or nine months to complete', Bogdan Moncea, Marketing Manager with Castel Film, told FNE. The last ten days of the production were only green screen shootings, to complete the visuals.

The crew departed immediately after wrapping, but one of the directors, Mark Neveldine, is still at Bucharest where his wife gave birth to their son in late February. Neveldine directed the film together with Brian Taylor, his partner on Crank, Crank : High Voltage and Gamer.

Ghost Rider 2is produced by Sony Pictures (www.sonypictures.com) and was the first film shot entirely in 3D in Romania. The demanding visual and pyrotechnic effects were also a first for Romania. The team consisted of 200 technicians, most of them Romanian. The script was written by Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman, after a story by David Goyer.

The project has a budget of 70 million dollars. Castel Film provided facilities. The shooting took place in more than 20 locations and also at Castel Film Studios. The cast includes Nicolas Cage, Violante Placido and Ciaran Hinds. The premiere is expected in 2012.
