KARLOVY VARY: Award-winning Slovak director Mira Fornay, who is serving on the main jury at the Karlovy Vary IFF, is in preproduction with Cook, F**k, Kill (Frogs with No Tongues) for a summer 2015 shoot.

Fornay told the panel at the Pitch and Feedback session at the Karlovy Vary IFF that the film will use one of the two titles it now goes by.

The 1.1 m EUR film is produced by Juraj Bazulka for Fornay’s company Mirafox. Fornay said she is working with Czech producer by Viktor Schwarcz of Cineart TV. The 100-minute film should be completed in spring 2016.

The central character in the film about domestic violence is a married male nurse obsessed with sex and cooking and overcome by jealousy. Fornay employs a role-playing game concept. “Domestic violence is like a game,” she said. She researched the topic by interviewing prisoners and has completed a working script. “The main topic … is responsibility for one’s individual actions,” Fornay said in a statement. “I decided to deal with the serious and tough topic of domestic violence with edgy dark humour and absurdity.”

The film has not yet received funding in Slovakia for the film’s 1.15 m EUR budget. Fornay said she would like to make a Slovak majority film but that she has received good responses from other countries, especially Germany. Panelists at the Pitch and Feedback commented on the “fascinating” and “rare” quality of the script.
