Afterburn Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Dave Bautista Filming in Bratislava

    BRATISLAVA: The futuristic action film Afterburn directed by J.J. Perry and starring Dave Bautista and Samuel L.Jackson is currently filming in Bratislava. The service in Slovakia is provided by Monsters films, s.r.o.

    The estimated budget of the film is around 104 m EUR and the expected amount of the subsidy approved by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund is 16,275,936 EUR.

    "The filming, which began in April 2024, will take place for about two months mostly in Bratislava but also in the surroundings," Zuzana Bieliková, the director of the Slovak Film Commission, told FNE.

    Afterburn is adapted from the Red 5 comic/graphic novel series of the same title. Former professional wrestler and actor Dave Bautista plays an ex-soldier Jake, who works as a treasure hunter recovering valuable objects from the old world for powerful clients, while Samuel L. Jackson will star in the supporting role of freedom fighter Valentine.

    The script comes from Matt Johnson with revisions by Hungarian-American director/screenwriter Nimrod Antal.

    The producers are Neal H. Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) and Toby Jaffe (Total Recall) for Original Film and Steve Richards (Sherlock Holmes franchise, The Matrix trilogy) for Endurance Media, which is also financing. Bautista is also producing through Dogbone Entertainment. Black Bear is handling international sales and CAA Media Finance is taking care of domestic sales.
