Launch at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 

BUDAPEST: The coming-of-age drama Orphan / Árva by Academy Award winner László Nemes has been selected as Hungary’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category.

TBILISI: George Sikharulidze’s debut feature Panopticon / Panoptikoni has been chosen as Georgia’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between Georgia, France, Romania, and Italy.

VILNIUS: The highest grossing Lithuanian film of all time, The Southern Chronicles / Pietinia Kronikas by Ignas Miškinis, has been selected as Lithuania’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction with Estonia.

BERLIN: After a successful 9th edition, the European Arthouse Cinema Day (EACD) returns to cinemas around the world on 23 November 2025, organised by the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas - CICAE in collaboration with Eurimages and the Europa Cinemas network.

The two industry events European Work in Progress (EWIP) and International Film Distribution Summit (IFDS) will take place in Hamburg for the first time. From 29 September to 2 October 2025, European films and projects will be presented as part of the Filmfest Hamburg Industry Days, and filmmakers will be brought into contact with potential partners from the industry. The implementation of environmentally friendly measures also plays a role in the organisation of these events. “The green transformation has long since begun in the film industry,” says Torsten Frehse, Managing Director of EWIP and IFDS. “We strive to minimise and further optimise the environmental impact of our events.” A sustainability strategy is being developed to ensure that energy and resources are used as efficiently as possible.

COTTBUS: The East-West coproduction market connecting cottbus (coco) has announced its vibrant and diverse selection of projects to be pitched at its 27th edition, running from 5-7 November during the FilmFestival Cottbus (4 – 9 November 2025).

BRATISLAVA: Tereza Nvotová’s third feature film Father / Otec has been selected as Slovakia’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between Slovakia, Poland and Czech Republic.

WARSAW: Agnieszka Holland’s Franz has been selected as Poland’s candidate for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award in the Best International Feature Film category. The film is a coproduction between Czech Republic, UK, Germany, France, and Poland.
