BRATISLAVA: Slovak filmmaker Martin Šulík was awarded the main IGRIC prize for directing the feature film The Interpreter / Tlmočník. The ceremony of the 30th edition of annual national film prizes took place in Bratislava’s City Theatre of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav on 29 September 2019.

BRATISLAVA: An unusualy large number of Slovak films will be theatrically released in September-October 2019. The 19 domestic releases include six 100% Slovak productions, eight majority coproductions and five minority coproductions.

BRATISLAVA: New amendments to the Audiovisual Law have been approved, that will increase the film incentives in Slovakia from 20% to 33% starting 1 January 2020.

BRATISLAVA: Zdeněk Jiráský’s new drama Kryštof (working title) entered postproduction. The film is a Slovak/Czech coproduction produced by Slovakia‘s ALEF FILM & MEDIA and the Czech company Fulfilm.

BRATISLAVA: The Slovak drama Who´s Next? / Kto je ďaľší, written, directed and produced by Miro Drobný, was shot in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, France, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The film was released domestically on 22 August 2019 in 86 cinemas, which is the new Slovak record after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), that was released in Slovakia in 82 cinemas.

BRATISLAVA: Gérard Depardieu is slated to play Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in Human Face - Freedom or Death / Ľudská tvár – Sloboda alebo smrť, directed by Croatian director Lordan Zafranović according to Slovak producer Andrej Antonio Leca from LECA Productions.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Mariana Čengel Solčanská starts preproduction on the Slovak/Czech historical drama The Chambermaid / Slúžka. The film is based on Hana Lasicová’s bestseller published in 2013 about lesbian love story set in Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century.

BRATISLAVA: Young Slovak director Peter Magát is currently in postproduction with his debut feature Little Kingdom / Malá ríša. This Slovak/Icelandic/Czech coproduction in English is going to have its distribution premiere in October 2019. The film stars Alicia Agneson, British actor Lachlan Nieboer and American actor Brian Caspe.

BRATISLAVA: Low budget romantic comedy Loli paradička by Richard Staviarsky and Víťo Staviarsky ranked second at the Slovak box office this past weekend. The film premiered at Art Film Fest Košice on 16 June 2019, where it won the Audience Award, and it was theatrically released by  Forum film s.r.o. on 18 July 2019. 

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director Iveta Grófová is in preproduction with Ema and Death's – Head / Ema a smrtihlav, originally written and directed by Peter Krištúfek, who died in 2018. The film is a Slovak / Czech coproduction set for shooting in 2020-2021.
