BUDAPEST: The 12th Budapest International Documentary Festival (BIDF) is currently held (24 January - 1 February 2026) in Budapest and also in Békéscsaba, Debrecen, Eger, Győr, Jászberény, Kecskemét, Pécs, Sopron, Szeged, Székesfehérvár, Szombathely, and Veszprém.

BUDAPEST: Acclaimed American director Ron Howard is shooting his upcoming military drama Alone at Dawn in Hungary, benefitting from the local 30% tax rebate. The Amazon MGM Studios film starring Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway is serviced in Hungary by Mid Atlantic Films.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian films produced with the support of the National Film Institute (NFI) exceeded 2 billion HUF (5.1m EUR) in revenue and 1 million viewers in cinemas in 2025. Hungarian filmmakers were awarded more than 50 prestigious festival awards at international film festivals around the world. At the Venice Film Festival, two Hungarian coproductions supported by the NFI were included in the competition programme which was unprecedented.

BUDAPEST: Creator and screenwriter Joe Barton’s Amadeus premiered on 21 December 2025 on Sky Atlantic. The five-episode historical miniseries is a new adaptation of Peter Schaffer’s 1979 stage play. The miniseries was shot in Budapest and other locations in Hungary, between May and September 2024, substituting for 18th century Vienna. It benefited from Hungary’s 30% tax rebate.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian filmmaker László Nemes has once again teamed up with his usual cinematographer, Mátyás Erdély, for his first French-language film, Moulin. The filming of this French production commenced on 15 September 2025 in Paris, before moving to Budapest.

BUDAPEST: The four-part historical TV miniseries A Tale of Two Cities starring Kit Harington, François Civil, and Mirren Mack, has been shooting in the streets of Budapest since October 2025 with Mid-Atlantic Films servicing.

BUDAPEST: Hungarian director Dániel Füzes is currently shooting his debut feature Switched Stance / Ellentétes alapállás, which is backed by the National Film Institute – Hungary (NFI) through its Incubator Programme.

BUDAPEST: Films supported by the National Film Institute - Hungary (NFI) were extremely successful in the first three quarters of 2025. Decade-long viewership and revenue records were broken in cinemas, while Hungarian productions won an outstanding total of 37 awards at international festivals.

BUDAPEST: Films Boutique has sold Ildikó Enyedi’s Silent Friend to several key territories. The film premiered in the main competition at the Venice Film Festival 2025, where it won six awards. The German/French/Hungarian coproduction is scheduled to be released in cinemas across Europe in the first half of 2026. It will be distributed in Hungary by Mozinet.

BUDAPEST: 1242 – Gateway to the West, the high budget historical film directed by Péter Soós and produced by Kornél Sipos through 1242 – Nyugat kapujában produkció, will have its world premiere on 2 October 2025 in Budapest. With a budget of 9.5m EUR / 3.7b HUF, it is one of the most expensive historical films supported by the National Film Institute – Hungary (NFI). It also benefited from the local 30% cash rebate scheme.
