PRODUCTION: Liza, the Fox-Fairy Begins Filming

    BUDAPEST: The Hungarian-Swedish coproduction Liza, the Fox-Fairy, the feature film debut of Karoly Ujj Meszaros written by Meszaros and Balint Hegedus, is currently in production with shooting due to wrap 26 August 2012.

    Liza, a rókatündér/Liza, the Fox-Fairy is a dark comedy about a timid nurse looking for romance, but who becomes convinced that she is a cursed fox-fairy since all her beaus die on the first date. Based on Japanese fairy-tales for adults, the film takes a fun and heartfelt approach to contemporary relationships.

    István Major is producing through Filmteam Ltd (www.filmteam.hu), in co-production with the Swedish Kameraten AB (www.kameraten.se). Csanád Darvas is associate producer. The budget is €1.4 million (405,000,000 HUF), representatives of Filmteam Ltd told FNE. The project received a production grant of €522,974/150,000,000 HUF from the Hungarian Film Fund (www.filmalap.hu) in January 2012. Kameraten AB, Origo FilmGroup (www.origofilmgroup.com) and VisionTeam (www.visionteam.hu) are also supporting the project.

    The 42 day shoot began on 2 July 2012.

    Jan Richter Friis is the DOP. The film stars Mónika Balsai, and the cast includes Zoltán Schmied, David Sakurai, Piroska Molnár, and Gábor Reviczki. The premiere is due for spring 2013 with the Hungarian National Film Fund handling sales.
