BERLIN: A total of 58 participants from 25 countries on four continents, and 30 trainers, tutors, and speakers took part in the opening event of the 23rd edition of CICAE’s Arthouse Cinema Training on 24 August 2026 in Berlin, marking the biggest edition in the programme's history. 

HAMBURG: The Marché du Film will become an official partner of the International Film Distribution Summit (IFDS) for its upcoming 5th edition, which will be held 29 September – 1 October in Hamburg, Germany.

RIGA: The 13th Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 15 – 25 October 2026) will open with the Latvian minority coproduction Woman Unknown by Danish director May el-Toukhy, which was shot in Riga. It will be shortly after its world premiere at the Venice IFF on 6 September 2026, as the first Latvian coproduction to be selected for the Main Competition.

Record Number of Participants: The 23rd Arthouse Cinema Training Opens in Berlin

On 15 October, the Riga International Film Festival (RIGA IFF, 15–25 October) will open with a film of particular significance to Latvian cinema – Danish director May el-Toukhy’s latest film, Woman Unknown, shot in Riga. The psychologically charged historical drama, which will have its Baltic premiere on RIGA IFF Opening Night, is an elegantly crafted story of secrets from the past that threaten a young housemaid’s future amid the turmoil of the post-war years. Filmmakers, producers and EU representatives discussed the role of Creative Europe in supporting young creative professionals and strengthening regional cooperation during the panel “Culture that Connects – European Opportunities for the Creative Industries” at the Sarajevo Film Festival, which runs from 14 to 21 August 2026.
