FNE Oscar Watch 2020: Georgia Selects Shindisi for Oscar Bid

    TBILISI: Dito Tsintsadze's Shindisi has been selected as Georgia’s entry for the 92nd Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ award in the best international feature film category. 

    Shindisi was selected from among five titles through secret ballot by a 12-member jury of Georgian film professionals.

    Its promotion will be further supported by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the Georgian National Film Center.

    Shindisi tells the story of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war through the fate of 17 Georgian soldiers who died during the Shindisi battle. The script was written by Irakli Solomanashvili based on real facts and the cast includes Georgian actors as well as real Georgian soldiers with combat equipment.

    The main characters are played by Goga Pipinashvili, Davit Bakhtadze, Tamuna Abshilava and Marim Jibladze.

    The film is produced by Georgian 20 Steps in coproduction with Free Movie Studio (Georgia), with the financial support of the Georgian National Film Center. The producers are Vladimer Katcharava, Edmond Minashvili and Konstantin Esadze.

    The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on 9 February 2020.
