FNE spoke to nine European film school students and recent graduates to find out what they think about the future of European film.

VENICE: Three films produced or coproduced by FNE partner countries have been chosen for the Official Selection of the 18 edition of Giornate degli Autori, which will take place 1-11 September 2021.

CANNES: The French film Titiane directed by Julia Ducournau was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 74th Cannes Film Festival that took place from 6 to 17 July 2021. The festival took place two month later than its usual May date after missing 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. In the main competition Compartment No 6 (Finland, Germany, Estonia, Russia) directed by Juho Kuosmanen was awarded the Grand Prix Ex Aequo together with A Hero (Iran, France) directed by Asghar Farhadi.

CANNES: The top prize at the 15th Krzysztof Kieslowski Scripteast Award ceremony in Cannes went to An Enemy by Teresa Zofia Czepiec and Maciej Sobieszczański from Poland.

CANNES: The new projects by Zuzana Kirchnerová (Caravan, Czech Republic) and Srđan Vuletić (The Otter, Montenegro) are among the 15 projects showcased at the 17th edition of Cannes’ Cinefondation’s Atelier 8-13 July 2021.

CANNES: Restored films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Márta Mészáros, Vojtech Jasný, Tengiz Abouladzé and Zdravko Velimirovic will screen in Cannes Classics 2021, whose selection was announced on 23 June 2021.

CANNES: A Macedonian film has entered the Cannes Short Films Competition for the first time, while films from Romania, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic are in the Cinéfondation selection.

CANNES: Întregalde by Romanian Radu Muntean and Murina, the debut feature by Croatian director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, have been selected for the 53rd edition of Cannes Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des Réalisateurs), which will be held 6-17 July 2021. When Night Meets Dawn by another Romanian director Andreea Cristina Borțun is among the short films selected for the same section.

CANNES: The Slovenian minority coproduction Small Body by Laura Samani and the Romanian short fiction film Intercom 15 by Andrei Epure will have their world premieres at the 60th edition of Cannes’ sidebar section Critics Week, set to take place 7-15 July 2021.
