PRODUCTION: New Polish thriller has all-star cast


    WARSAW: Józef and Michal Skolimowscy, in the midst of shooting Ixjana Z piekła rodem (Ixjana Straight from Hell), are working with an all-star cast for their first major feature project.

    The story, by the sons of celebrated Polish filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski, centers on a writer specializing in macabre stories who stumbles upon clues of a satanic crime, which lead to a beautiful witch. The only key to the riddle is the mysterious name Ixjana that he finds written on a wall in human blood.

    The wealth of special effects and the fantasy-thriller theme has been generating buzz, along with the cast, including Borys Szyc, best actor winner both at the Polish Eagles (www.pnf.pl ) and at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Anna Dereszowska gained her popularity with a lead in Ladies, directed by Tomasz Konecki, which has held the box office record for a local productions since 2008. The cast also includes Sambor Czarnota, Magdalena Boczarska, Jan Frycz and Ewa Hornich.

    The film is produced by Film Media (www.filmmedia.com.pl), the company behind Snow White and Russian Red directed by Xawery Żuławski, one of the most critically acclaimed and popular Polish films of 2009.
